Warang Warang Cafe in Jeju: Olle Course 5 Must-Visit
Even though I was walking the Olle Trail at a leisurely pace, I felt like taking a break. Near the camellia forest, a unique sculpture on a roof caught my eye. It turned out to be Warang Warang, a cafe famous for its coffee in this area. I had always wanted to try it, so I went in without hesitation.
Like a true local Jeju cafe, they have plenty of tangerine-based drinks. However, I'm personally not a fan of tangerine beverages, so I ordered an Einspänner. I also ordered the grilled sticky rice cake (chal-tteok-gui), which is a must-try when you visit this place.
The view looking outside from the bar table by the window inside the shop is lovely. Unfortunately, there were so many people that I couldn't capture it in a photo. As expected from a cafe right in the middle of the Olle Trail, there were many solo travelers as well as couples. Everyone had different drinks, but it was fun to see that every single table had a plate of grilled sticky rice cake.
When the coffee came out, I took a small sip, and it was incredibly smooth. Even in Seoul, I've never had an Einspänner with such perfect temperature and smoothness. The coffee itself tastes great, but drinking it with the cream makes you want to savor it in your mouth forever. Usually, Jeju cafes rely solely on their views while the coffee tastes similar everywhere, but I want to give Warang Warang high marks for its coffee.
The grilled sticky rice cake is topped with sweet and nutty soybean powder, giving it a nostalgic, vintage vibe. Maybe because I had been walking for a long time, the first half went down easily, but after that, I got a bit thirsty and tired of it pretty quickly. I think one plate is the perfect portion for two people to share.
From the cups to the plates and even the spoons, every single detail has character. It's known as a must-visit spot when walking Olle Course 5, and it's easy to see why it earned that reputation.
