Seogwipo Cafe Syong: Ocean Views & Waffles
Right next to Gongcheonpo Restaurant is a small cafe called 'Syong'. I looked it up a bit and found out the owner named it after his wife's nickname, which reminds me of 'My Ssong' that used to be in Garosu-gil (a popular street in Seoul). I went in to grab a quick bite while zoning out to the quiet music playing in the background. My order was an espresso and a waffle.

The espresso came out first, served in a proper demitasse cup. I think I've had espresso about three times in Jeju, but this is the first place that actually served it in a demitasse. The taste was pretty standard, with almost no acidity.

Just as I was finishing my espresso, the waffle arrived. It comes with maple syrup and cream, and you have to pour the syrup and cut into it quickly. The freshly baked waffle is incredibly moist, and dipping it in the cream makes it melt right in your mouth—an instant sugar rush. It would be nice to have topping options other than banana, but since the cafe is right in the middle of Olle Trail Route 5, bananas are actually a great choice for replenishing the energy of tired walkers.

As you can see, the view is fantastic, letting you look out at the ocean from almost eye level. Even in the short time I was there, several couples came by to take pictures and leave. It's a great cafe to just kick back, relax, and enjoy the ocean along with a soft waffle.
